How do you see digital transformation enhancing the career path for women in construction?

I see the acceleration of digital transformation enhancing career opportunities for women in construction in many ways. As the industry morphs and evolves to embrace the digital world, a few key areas of opportunity for women come to mind.

First is around project management–companies need strong talent to spearhead digital initiatives, to create alignment between operational functions, to put solid plans in place for the deployment and adoption of new technologies, and to lead the charge on the execution of these plans.

Another area of opportunity is around change management and employee engagement. Underprioritized or ineffective change management is often the downfall of digital transformation initiatives and companies realize that this is a critical area of investment to achieve digital transformation success. Working to communicate early and often, the catalyst for the project, gather and incorporate feedback, develop implementation and training strategies, and measure adoption patterns are all critical charges in a company’s quest to embrace digital.

Thirdly, customer experience presents an area of opportunity. Digital transformation is driven largely by the need to serve customers in new and improved ways. As such, customer experience roles are needed to marry the needs and wants of the customer with the capabilities gained from new digital tools.

Finally, with digital transformation there are a wealth of new roles around data analytics and business intelligence that are ripe for women to fill. It’s an exciting time for women in construction as companies embrace digital transformation because it brings about a need for new skills and capabilities that women are well-positioned to deliver.
