Metal building systems are gaining popularity due to the ease of assembly. Other factors, like 100-percent usable interior space, high gauge wall and roof sheeting, and high tensile strength, add to the versatility of metal building systems. Let’s take a closer look at two projects completed using pre-fabricated metal building systems to create unique and intriguing structures.

BUFFALO RUN CASINO
Buffalo no longer thunder across the plains of eastern Oklahoma, and no one gets their kicks on the abandoned Route 66, but residents of a four-state area now find fun at the rebuilt Buffalo Run Casino in Miami, Oklahoma. Farrell Construction of Neosho, Missouri, built a new 60,788-square-foot steel building over the existing fabric facade structure, which they finished with fiberglass logs and stacked stone for a nod to the region’s rural heritage.
A heavy storm blanketed the original fabric-covered structure in snow, which almost caused a roof failure. As a result, the casino owners wanted a sturdier structure, but did not want to close for construction. The solution was a durable steel structure built over the original, which enabled the casino to stay open 24/7 throughout the construction of the new building.
“There aren’t many contractors smart enough or crazy enough to take on a project like this, but our team was ready,” says Cory Farrell, vice president of Farrell Construction. “Buildings have been built over buildings before, but as far as we know, not to this large of scale. It was a great challenge, and I am proud of our entire team for helping us make this project happen.”
Farrell Construction used a pre-engineered metal building system, PBR and PBU wall panels and BattenLok® HS roofing from Metallic Building Company, based in Houston, Texas. Metallic’s building systems help save money in several ways. During construction, labor costs are reduced because the system arrives on site already cut to the pre-specified design. And, because metal systems accommodate greater loads and can span longer distances than other structural systems, they may require fewer materials to build overall. The BattenLok roofing includes a mechanically seamed side joint for a weather-tight finish and the PBR and PBU wall panels come with 25-year and 20-year finish warranties.

MATHEWS HARLEY DAVIDSON
The throaty roar of Harley motorcycles from Mathews Harley Davidson in Fresno, California, has echoed through the state’s Central Valley since 1953. In summer 2012, the family-owned dealership opened a new sales facility and motorcycle museum. The building’s contractor, Don Pickett & Associates, Fresno, chose a metal system from Metallic Building Company for this 11,600-square-foot, gable symmetrical/single slope building. The metal architecture features reverse-rolled PBU panels installed horizontally and PBD panels installed vertically for visual variety. The metal panels and brick veneer reflect the signature architecture of the Harley Davidson brand.
Metallic’s reverse-rolled PBU wall panels come with a 25-year finish warranty and carry a UL rating. The company’s PBD panels offer the additional strength of an exposed fastener panel. Both are available with long-lasting Galvalume Plus® finishes.
CONCLUSION
Whether you need a simple, low-complexity building or a large complex structure, you will find that metal building systems can provide countless benefits. Erection processes are simplified to effectively speed up construction—and the versatility of pre-fabricated metal building systems enable you to achieve custom designs. ■
