Metal roofing systems are a popular option for contractors and the building community because of the material’s durability and longevity. Metal roofing systems are energy efficient, sustainable, recyclable, aesthetically pleasing, and able to withstand harsh environmental elements. Firestone Building Products is a trusted manufacturer and supplier of commercial and industrial metal roofing systems, and recently, the company extended its portfolio to include Fluid Applied Metal Roofing Systems, a family of products designed to restore, protect, and lengthen the life of metal roofs.
The Firestone Fluid Applied Metal Roofing Systems were developed using elastomeric roof coating technology formulated with 100-percent acrylic polymer to offer superior adhesion, water protection, and durability. Firestone Fluid Applied Metal Roofing Systems are designed to protect the building envelope from severe weather, extreme temperatures, airborne pollutants, and emissions, which can contribute to leaks, rust, and a host of other issues. Additionally, the Fluid Applied Metal Roofing Systems add to the aesthetics of a roof, and improve the overall appearance of a commercial or industrial building.
The Firestone Fluid Applied Metal Roofing Systems include the following products:

  • Metal coatings
  • Metal primers
  • Metal patching cement
  • Skylight coating
  • Seam tapes and fabrics

SUSTAINABLE ALTERNATIVE
Firestone Building Products is committed to developing green products that contribute to better commercial and industrial building performance. The addition of Fluid Applied Metal Roofing Systems demonstrates that commitment, and offers additional cost benefits.
The new Firestone Fluid Applied Metal Roofing Systems incorporate two metal coatings: an aluminum metal roof coating and an elastomeric metal roof coating.

Before: Application in three easy steps: prep, seal, and coat. All coatings can be applied by brush, roller, or spray (see above).
Aluminum Metal Roof Coating
Designed for aluminum roofing applications, the fibered aluminum reflective coating is manufactured from quality aluminum leafing pigments, refined asphalt, reinforcing fibers, and petroleum distillates. The combination of reinforcing fibers and refined asphalt provide durability and long-term performance for aluminum roofs. The aluminum metal roof coating comes in silver.
Elastomeric Metal Roof Coating
The elastomeric metal roof coating is designed to help contractors and building owners maximize the energy efficiency of a metal roof, and by extension, the building envelope. The elastomeric metal roof coating provides a high level of reflective properties that keep the roof near ambient air temperature, while minimizing stress to fasteners and seams caused by thermal expansion and contraction. The elastomeric metal roof coating can be used on aluminum and steel roofs, and is available in white, gray, black, and tan.
While the elastomeric metal roof coating is available in a variety of colors for aesthetics, the white color is best for achieving the highest energy and cost savings. The white elastomeric metal roof coating helps reduce the temperature of the roof’s surface by up to 100-degrees F and can also help minimize the peak cooling demands of a building by up to 15 percent. The white elastomeric metal roof coating is rated by the Cool Roof Rating Council and is ENERGY STAR®, Underwriters Laboratories (UL), and FM Global (FM) approved.
The white elastomeric metal roof coating is effective in any climate, but the greatest energy savings can be achieved in warmer climates, such as the southern part of the United States where there are warmer temperatures year-round.
EASE OF INSTALLATION
This product line offers a start-to-finish solution for each stage in the restoration of a metal roof. Firestone Fluid Applied Metal Roofing Systems are applied in three easy steps: prep, seal, and coat. All coatings can be applied by brush, roller, or spray. The coatings and primers are available for purchase in 5- and 55-gallon drums.

COST SAVINGS
The Firestone Fluid Applied Metal Roofing Systems are a cost effective solution for replacing a metal roof. Using these systems to restore an existing roof saves on the cost of installing a brand-new system; as well as the costs associated with the tear-off and disposal of the former roof. Additionally, the systems reduce energy use, which results in lower operating costs for the building owner in the long-run. Firestone Fluid Applied Metal Roofing Systems are eligible for a Firestone 10-year warranty.
