A significant transportation upgrade is set to boost regional connectivity in Washington state, aiming to connect key areas and improve travel efficiency. The Washington State DOT selected Jacobs Solutions as lead designer for the SR 509 Stage 2 completion project, according to a news release. The initiative, part of the overall $2.68 billion Puget Sound Gateway Program, aims to enhance the transportation network between I-5 and SR 509. The project will create essential links from the Port of Seattle to key manufacturing and distribution centers in the Kent Valley, finishing near Sea-Tac Airport.

Jacobs will join the design-build team, led by Renton, Washington-based contractor Guy F. Atkinson Construction. The project involves the construction of five new bridges, one bridge modification, stormwater facilities, and infrastructure to support walking, cycling, and other physical modes of travel. The value of the contract is $479 million.
