Offering its industry-exclusive Remix Anti-Segregation System, the Cedarapids CR652RX from BOMAG, powered by a 260 hp Cummins Tier 4 Final diesel engine, offers the latest technology to meet today’s stringent emissions standards. The powerful turbocharged engine offers plenty of horsepower to operate the machine’s Remix Anti-Segregation System augers, paver functions, and electric screed; it also offers reserve power to operate options such as lights for night paving. This mainline paver delivers the production required for full-width paving applications, such as airports, interstates and state highways, and major county road and highway construction.
The new operator’s platform design for the Remix Paver—and all of Cedarapids Tier 4 Final pavers—significantly increases operator visibility to improve paving quality and efficiency. The new swiveling seat pivots the operator beyond the paver’s side, providing unobstructed line of sight to the front wheel bogies and/or track. The redesigned operator’s console also moves and pivots to line up with the operator’s seat, improving operator comfort.
UPGRADES AND NEW DESIGN FEATURES
At the heart of the Remix design are several unique and exclusive features designed to eliminate material and thermal segregation. Replacing the slat conveyor system of traditional pavers are two sets of two variable-pitch counter-rotating augers, which uniformly draw down material from all areas of the hopper, aggressively reblending the asphalt at the last stage of the paving process. Outboard auger drive motors, mounted to the paver’s rear bulkhead, allow removal of the center drive gearbox, enabling the spread augers to back up to each other and eliminating the occurrence of centerline segregation.
The revamped Remix Paver and all Tier 4 Final pavers are equipped with BOMAG Telematics to maximize machine uptime, boost machine utilization rates, and increase return on investment. These advanced diagnostics track paver location, operating hours, idle time, fuel consumption, engine service codes, and maintenance reminders. The system’s Geo-Fence feature alerts key personnel when the machine has left a defined area to help prevent paver theft.
Featuring the largest drive tire in the industry, the Cedarapids Remix Paver provides a 35 percent greater footprint than comparable pavers for increased flotation. Heavy-duty, rear drive motors deliver increased draw-bar pull and superior tractive effort, while the available front wheel drive assist option improves draw-bar pull by 50 percent over standard two-wheel drive systems. The machine’s optional proportional steer system enhances paver maneuverability by holding a tighter turning radius and is essential when paving with material transfer devices.
STILL GETTING THE BEST OF THE BEST
The Remix Paver offers the same system features as all other Cedarapids models that have made them the pavers of choice for mainline paving. Its patented Frame Raise System raises and lowers the rear of the paver, which allows the operator to fine-tune the head of material at the spreading augers, reducing segregation. By isolating the frame from the drive system, the exclusive Three-Point Suspension essentially “floats” the pavers over subbase irregularities, maintaining consistent material feed height at the screed.
A unique cooling system keeps the paver running cooler and the engine compartment cleaner for optimum reliability. Cooling air is drawn from above the hood rather than ground level for cleaner air quality; it exits primarily through the front grill, resulting in a pressurized engine compartment that reduces debris infiltration. Unlike pavers with transverse mounted engines, the CR652RX’s airflow and engine mounting is less likely to affect today’s popular sonic grade control systems with waves of hot air.
The paver’s standard receiving hopper capacity is 16.7 tons and can be expanded to 27 tons when equipped with the available hopper insert, which channels asphalt directly into the hopper’s reblending augers. The paver’s heavy-duty frame and bogie pivot, kingpin and bogie bearings are designed specifically to handle these heavier loads when working with hopper inserts. Contractors can equip the CR652RX Remix paver with two screed models: the Fastach® 10 or Stretch 20®, both available with diesel or electric heating systems. Depending on screed model, this 10-foot paver delivers mainline paving widths reaching 30 feet at depths up to 12 inches. ■
