Mi-T-M Corporation is a leading designer and manufacturer of high-quality industrial equipment. Its extensive line of products includes cold and hot water pressure washers, air compressors, generators, air compressor generators combination, wet/dry vacuums, jobsite boxes, portable heaters, and water treatment systems.
Founded in 1971 by professional painting contractor AJ Spiegel, the Mi-T-M Corporation is located in Peosta, Iowa, where pride and workmanship is a tradition. From the day the very first pressure washer was built, the company has worked hard to maintain its reputation for manufacturing high-quality products.
Dana Schrack, vice president of Mi-T-M Corporation, shares his thoughts on the company—where it has been and where he sees the company going.
At the request of its customers, Mi-T-M recently introduced equipment that is a 3 in 1 combination unit, compressed air, electric power, and stick welder.
How’s business for Mi-T-M?
SCHRACK: Mi-T-M has seen a steady growth over the last 5 years. In fact, Mi-T-M just completed construction and relocation of its fabrication, production, and corporate headquarters in Peosta, Iowa. The three-building complex spans nearly one million square feet and will support our 5- and 10-year growth plans. Our customer base continues to grow both domestically and internationally, which has created new opportunities and, ultimately, new business for Mi-T-M.
What has influenced Mi-T-M and its product offerings?
SCHRACK: Our customers continue to be the driving force for new products and channel distribution. Nearly everything we do has some influence from a customer. Diversification is also a key influencer. Many of our products can be found in the contractor “toolbox,” so it’s important to listen to the needs of that market.
How does Mi-T-M add benefit for the contractor?
SCHRACK: Our years of experience in the rental, equipment, and paint industries have kept us focused on our customers’ needs. With that in mind, we develop specific product features that add value. It’s the customers’ livelihood, so they must be able to profit from using our equipment.
What is one facet of business that can make a positive difference in a contractor’s operations?
SCHRACK: New and innovative products that are geared toward the contracting market will make the biggest difference. We develop these products to keep the contractor equipped with the tools that makes their job easier and more efficient. A prime example is our 2 in 1 combination units (www.mitm.com/products/series/air-compressor-generators/4) that provides contractors with compressed air and electric power, all in one unit. On the request of our customers, we’ve recently introduced equipment that is a 3 in 1 combination unit, compressed air, electric power, and stick welder (www.mitm.com/products/series/air-compressor-generator-welder/14).
What is the most challenging issue facing the construction industry?
SCHRACK: Although there are many outside influences that affect this industry, I believe workforce shortages will be the biggest challenge. Low interest rates will spur the demand for new construction, which will exaggerate these shortages. Designing equipment to improve efficiencies in the construction industry, and in turn ease the burden of a small workforce, will always be a top priority at Mi-T-M. ■
