Minnich A-1C and A-2C on-slab drills are ideal for a variety of dowel pin drilling applications. With a total of four models available in the A-1C (single drill) series, plus the versatile A-2C double drill model, contractors can easily choose the proper on-slab drill for any project.
“On-slab drills offer a smart alternative to drilling dowel pin holes when it’s important to leave the subgrade untouched,” says Todd Jurjevic, sales and marketing director for Minnich. “Equipped with a steering wheel to enhance operator accuracy and control, our on-slab models are making a big impact with road builders.”
The most popular model in the series requires a minimum cutout width of 48 inches to allow the drilling apparatus to align with the edge of the slab. The units in the A-1C and A-2C product lines can reach a maximum drill depth of 18 inches with an under collar drill steel length of 24 inches. The A-1C model requires 92.2 SCFM and the A-2C model requires double the SCFM of the A-1C model. Both models have 90 PSIG in terms of pneumatic power, and the drills can be equipped with an optional dust collection system to reduce debris on the jobsite. Another well-received feature on the A-1C and A-2C drills is the automatic shutoff feature. This function increases the life of the drill by minimizing the frequency of dry-firing on the jobsite.
A-1C ON-SLAB SINGLE DRILL
The A-1C units have an operating weight of 670 pounds, and feature adjustable drill height and depth. They also operate in three positions; horizontal, vertical, and at a 35-degree stitch. Furthermore, they are capable of skew drilling for special applications. The A-1C on-slab series come standard with urethane-filled, flat-proof tires to ensure jobsite productivity. The models in the A-1C line have a drilling distance from the top of the slab ranging from 1.5 to 11.75 inches.
The A-1C series product line is available from Minnich’s global network of distributors and feature the following models:

  • A-1C-24
  • A-1C-30
  • A-1C-36
  • A-1C-48

A-2C ON-SLAB DOUBLE DRILL
The A-2C, like its single drill counterpart, allows drilling in horizontal, vertical, and 35-degree stitch positions, making it a highly versatile machine. Designed with productivity in mind, the A-2C cuts operating time roughly in half due to the incorporation of the second drill. Additionally, the A-2C is equipped with a larger oiler for reduced maintenance, and the drill height and depth are easily adjusted for varying jobsite specifications. The A-2C is capable of drilling a distance from the top of the slab ranging from 1.5 to 11.75 inches.
MINNICH MANUFACTURING
Minnich Manufacturing was originated in 1968 by founder Roger Minnich. The first product built was an Electric High Cycle Concrete Vibrator, most commonly used by the road paving industry. Roger later pioneered the development of the Hydraulic Vibrator, which is most frequently used on pavers today.
With a background in High Cycle Vibrators the company began a line of structural High Cycle Vibrators and High Cycle Generators. To compliment the line, a 60 cycle Electric Flex Shaft Vibrator was also built.
In 1985, Minnich began building Dowel Pin Drill units that are available in both single and multi-gang units. The drills are powered pneumatically or hydraulically and can be manual, self-propelled, or mounted on backhoes, skid steer loaders, and various other pieces of equipment. In 1993, Jim Minnich joined the company and took over operations. At that time, a building addition was created to support the expanding Dowel Pin Drill production line. Also, a 24-hour a day, 7 day a week test lab was created for the Hydraulic Vibrator line.
Then in 1997, Minnich initiated the first Hydraulic Vibrator Monitoring System that provided the paver operator with vibrator VPM readings on the control panel of the concrete paver. In 2000, Minnich introduced the Auto Vibe Total Vibrator Control System that not only gave the operator VPM readings, but also actually controlled the vibrator’s VPM automatically with a touch of a button.
Since 1968, Minnich Manufacturing has operated with the mission of producing high-quality products that are safe and cost effective for concrete and utility contractors. Minnich Manufacturing is an industry leader in the production of dowel pin drills, concrete paving vibrators, vibrator monitoring systems, and custom-made special application drills. Based in Mansfield, Ohio, Minnich Manufacturing offers optimum service and technical support through a global network of distributors. ■
