Connected Apprentice provides an iPad-based technology bundle for trade training centers. iBusiness Technologies developed the technology bundle and partnered with Apple to modernize instruction and prepares apprentices for digital jobsites. Training centers adopting Connected Apprentice continue to use their existing curriculum; however, digital versions of their instructional materials plus industry-specific software gets preloaded to their iPads.

These software packages are the industry standard that graduating apprentices use at their worksites. The turnkey bundle provides preloaded iPads, mobile device management, training, US-based support, and membership to the user group community. Administrators are trained to control devices, manage content, push updates,  and other essential functions. Additional software can be pushed over-the-air at any time.

Connected Apprentice is the exclusive iPad provider to national unions including United Association (Plumbers, Pipefitters, Sprinkler Fitters, HVACR) and ITI (sheet metal, air conditioning).

TODAY’S SOLUTIONS

“Today’s contractors rely heavily on industry-specific software typically running on mobile devices in the field,” says Steve Metzman, Founder and CEO of iBusiness Technologies. “The Connected Apprentice trains students to use industry software and leverage mobile devices to optimize productivity. New hires trained with Connected Apprentice are productive employees on day one.

Metzman explains that jobsite technology has become just as important a tool as traditional hand and power tools. “Construction is now designed and performed based on computer plans, thus workers need to be proficient,” he adds.

“This is the way our industry is going. We need to embrace it; otherwise, we’ll be left behind,” explains Shawn Arballo, training coordinator for sprinkler fitters 709, who has incorporated the Connected Apprentice program. “The feedback that we get from our apprentices is that they love it.”

Metzman notes that the skilled trades have reemerged as a high-paying and secure career path, now a very viable and popular alternative to college.  “Additionally, trade work is AI-proof,” says Metzman. “No AI program can weld a pipeline in the snow, frame a house, or hang HVAC ducts in tomorrow’s stadiums.”
